Earlier this week, reports claiming that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are interested in signing Yuvraj Singh as their head coach emerged. Since then, the cricket fraternity is buzzing as fans want to see
the former India all-rounder take up coaching for a professional team. He has mentored the likes of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma in the past and was seen recently working with the likes of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, looking to help them hone their craft.
During an exclusive interview with CricTracker, LSG wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran reflected on reports of Yuvraj potentially joining the franchise as the head coach ahead of IPL 2026. The southpaw believes playing under legendary cricketers like Yuvraj's coaching is an absolute honour for him. The former also lauded the efforts of Justin Langer, who is the current head coach of the Rishabh Pant-led side.
Apart from this, Pooran also spoke in detail about his camaraderie with Kieron Pollard. He took over the captaincy of Trinbago Knight Riders from Pollard in the recently-concluded season and helped the franchise win its fifth title. Pooran said that he continues to consider the veteran all-rounder as a leader.
Check out excerpts from the exclusive interview:
Yuvraj Singh might be the head coach of Lucknow. Your views on it?
I wish I knew. I am not sure. I mean, any person who is a legend of this game is an absolute honour to be led by them. So whoever it may be, I am looking forward to the opportunity. Justin Langer has been really good as well for us. There is a margin. So it is good for him. I don't know what the situation is there. But whoever is a coach, I am sure it is going to be a lot of fun.
Recently, you won CPL with Bravo and Pollard. So any funny conversation or any funny incident, if you want to share with us?
I know he is going to curse me and tell me I left him out of my arm. Out of his arm. Yeah. I think he has had a lot of moments, even with me practising. Once he told me I can't hit him. Then he bowled me. I said I can definitely try to hit him. I will. Then he bowled me a yorker behind my back and he bowled me down. Then he started to laugh at me and dance. He is going to run all over the place. A lot of funny moments with him. I think every single day you share with him are memories. He is that person. His characteristics is one where there is never a dull moment when he is around.
He is our superstar in the Caribbean, is a good person which is most important. He mentors us and tells us when we are doing something wrong. A good guy to be around. It's nice to pick his brain about how he played and his passion for the game. He wants to win every single game. It's nice to have that kind of person around you.
You replaced Kieron Pollard. Did he say anything after you became the captain in CPL?
He just said it's my turn now. We have been around each other long enough now to be loyal and support each other is most important. As much as he gave the captaincy up I still viewed him as a leader as well. The guys still viewed him as the leader of the team. Even when moments got tough on the cricket field I know who I have to go to and say, okay, Polly, this next couple of overs, you do this, you do that. We keep bunking ideas off each other.
Even off the field Polly is still there. He's still the captain. Even doing past the captaincy on Polly, we still feel like sometimes he's still the captain as well. It's good to have different leaders on the team coming together, putting all our ideas together and being successful at the end. That's what made it really special for us. Really lucky and privileged to be around that entire group. I felt like it was really special. The last five years, we didn't win anything. It's really nice to see that after a couple of years with the same group, we finally lifted the cup.
