Rohit Sharmais set to miss Mumbai Indians’ (MI) upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 16 at the Wankhede Stadium due to a hamstring injury.
The extent of the injury, which he sustained during MI’s previous game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), is expected to be clarified by the team management in the pre-match press conference on April 15. For now, it is confirmed that the former MI skipper will sit out the match against PBKS.
Rohit suffered
the injury during the second innings of the clash against RCB and had to retire hurt in the sixth over of the chase. MI eventually lost the match, marking their third defeat in four games this season.
Despite the setback, Rohit has been in solid form, scoring 137 runs in four matches at an average of 45.67 and a strike rate of 165.06. His absence leaves a significant gap at the top of the order, and MI could consider bringing in Quinton de Kock as a like-for-like opener. Alternatively, Suryakumar Yadav might be promoted from No. 3 to open alongside Ryan Rickelton.
