Delhi Capitals left-arm spinner Sree Charani has said that the team will remain committed to their plans as they prepare to face Gujarat Giants in a crucial Women’s Premier League (WPL) Eliminator on Tuesday, February 3. DC Women head into the knockout clash with confidence after registering a convincing five-wicket victory over UP Warriorz in their final league-stage match.
Speaking ahead of the high-stakes encounter, Charani outlined the team’s approach and stressed the importance of sticking to
their strengths rather than overthinking the occasion. She revealed that the DC W have focused on keeping things simple.
Charani also highlighted the influence of senior batter Laura Wolvaardt, who advised the squad to treat the match like any other league fixture instead of a do-or-die contest. According to Charani, that mindset helped the team stay calm and execute their plans effectively in the previous game.
“We will just try to stick to our strengths against the Gujarat Giants. Everyone is chill in our duties. I had a talk with Laura and she said to take it as a simple match, not a qualification match. Everyone thought in the same way,” said Charani.
She also praised Marizanne Kapp’s exceptional work ethic, stating that she is eager to learn as much as possible from the experienced all-rounder. Charani acknowledged the constant guidance and support she received from Meg Lanning during her earlier seasons with Delhi, up until 2025, and added that Jemimah Rodrigues has also played an important role by offering encouragement.
“Kapp has good work ethics. I want to learn how she puts in the work and how she plays in the nets. I think I can learn from her and behave like that. Meg used to guide me a lot and now Jemimah is doing the same. She guides me a lot, in every match, every ball I bowl, she does that,” said Charani.
Delhi Capitals Women concluded their league-stage campaign in third place, finishing with six points from eight matches. Gujarat Giants Women and Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women topped the points table and secured direct qualification to the playoffs in the ongoing WPL 2026 season.
Speaking on DC W’s final league match, UP Warriorz were restricted to a modest 122/8 in their 20 overs, with none of their batters managing to cross the 30-run mark. Deepti Sharma was the top scorer for UP with 24 runs. Delhi’s bowling unit delivered a disciplined performance, led by Marizanne Kapp, who picked up an impressive three-wicket haul, conceding just 30 runs. Chinelle Henry and Sree Charani provided excellent support, claiming two wickets apiece.
In reply, DC Women chased down the target comfortably in 18.4 overs. Laura Wolvaardt anchored the innings with a composed 47, while Jemimah Rodrigues chipped in with a crucial 26. Their partnership ensured there were no late hiccups as Delhi sealed a five-wicket victory, securing their spot in the Eliminator.
