While the Asia Cup 2025 came to a conclusion with India winning the title for the ninth time, the drama surrounding their trophy snub during the customary presentation ceremony has not come to an end just
yet. The Asian Cricket Council member boards met surrounding the matter on September 30. The Board of Control for Cricket in India was represented by the Vice President Rajeev Shukla, showing no mercy towards ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
The main topic of discussion during the latest meeting was to come to a solution for handing the trophy to the Indian team led by Suryakumar Yadav, who beat Pakistan fair and square in the finals to win the competition on Sunday, September 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Notably, India had refused to take the trophy from Naqvi, but the latter retaliated childishly by keeping the trophy in his custody and eloping to his hotel room.
According to India Today, the matter did not sit will with VP Shukla, who forwarded some harsh questions to the ACC chairman, who also happens to be the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) head. Shukla, who is also a diplomat with the Indian government, reminded Naqvi that the trophy is not his own property, and it belongs to the winning team, and the same must be handed over to the champions with all the due respect. The final outcome is currently awaited.
