Duleep Trophy — India's most prestigious red-ball domestic competition is coming back for its 2025 season. This marquee event will also mark the commencement
of BCCI's domestic season 2025-26, as has been the customary norm. This time round, the Duleep Trophy will once again be played in zonal format, after being played between secondary national teams in the previous season.
Speaking of the previous edition, India A, led by Mayank Agarwal, lifted the illustrious trophy after defeating India C in the grand finale by 132 runs at the Rural Development Trust Stadium, Anantapur. Meanwhile, the finale of the previous zonal format played between South Zone and West Zone, where the former reigned supreme by 75 runs, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
For their feats in the previous season, South Zone and West Zone have been directly awarded a place in the semi-finals. The South Zone side will face the winner from the first quarter-final between North Zone and East Zone, whereas, the West Zone has been designated to play the winning side from the second quarter-final clash between Central Zone and North East Zone.
With the tournament back to be played in the zonal format once again, top cricketers from nook and corners of the country, who have proved their mettle in the previous domestic season, have been awarded a place respective of the zones they represent. For example, teams like Hyderabad, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra, Puducherry, and Goa.
