Chennai Super Kings defeated the Delhi Capitals by eight wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, May 5. This is their second consecutive win, as
they decimated Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals one after another.
Axar Patel won the toss on Tuesday and opted to bat first. He had the feeling that the pitch would slow down in the second innings. KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka got the team off to a sedate start, adding 29 runs in four overs. Both were dismissed after getting starts.
Karun Nair and Nitish Rana also departed after spending some time in the middle. Axar Patel's woeful form with the bat continued as he made just two runs off six balls. Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi resurrected the innings with a 65-run stand off 47 balls after Delhi lost half their side for 69 runs in 11 overs.
Stubbs was dismissed for 38 off 31 balls, while Rizvi remained unbeaten on 40 off 24 deliveries. Ashutosh Sharma chipped in with a five-ball 14, as the hosts finished on 155/7.
In reply, Chennai lost the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad early. Urvil Patel slammed a couple of sixes off Lungi Ngidi before being dismissed. Sanju Samson and Kartik Sharma joined forces and their 114-run stand off 66 balls squashed the hopes of the home team.
The former finished on 87* off 52 balls, hitting seven fours and six sixes. Meanwhile, Kartik made an unbeaten 41 off 31 balls with the help of four fours and two sixes.
