Jos Buttler and Rohit Sharma played two seasons together at the Mumbai Indians and won the Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2017. The modern-day great
share a cordial relationship that embodies mutual admiration and respect for each other's craft. While a lot of time has gone by since and Buttler has played switched teams twice since then, his bond with Rohit has strengthened significantly over time.
Rohit and Buttler recently competed against each other during India's three-match ODI tour of England. During the intense series that England won 2-1, Buttler received a special gift from his former IPL captain, Rohit.
On Friday, July 24, Buttler took to his official Instagram handle, where he shared a story of Rohit's jersey. The former India captain wrote: "Dear Jos, Loved my time playing with & against you."
In the story, the England wicketkeeper-batter wrote "The one opposition players shirt I've always wanted, one of my all time favourite players! Will treasure this thank you @rohitsharma45."
How did Rohit and Buttler fare in the series?
Rohit scored 11 (21) and 26 (47) in the first two ODIs and there were reports suggesting that the final game at Lord's was going to be his last appearance in international cricket. However, the 39-year-old proved his doubters wrong at the Home of Cricket, as he slammed 138 runs off just 110 balls, belting 17 fours and five sixes. While India lost the match, where they were chasing a 388-run target, the Men in Blue gave great fight, eventually finishing on 360/7.
Meanwhile, Buttler slammed an unbeaten 41 off 13 balls in that same game. The Taunton-born also struggled in the first two matches, scoring five and 17, respectively.
Both the experienced campaigners will be key to their respective teams' campaigns in the ODI World Cup next year. While Buttler has won the 50-over World Cup in the past, the coveted trophy has eluded the Indian stalwart.
