The Punjab Kings (PBKS) will lock horns against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday afternoon in Match 17 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL)
at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on Saturday, April 11.
PBKS have picked up five points from their opening three matches of the new season, and are currently second in the standings. Before their wash-out at the Eden Gardens, last year’s finalists secured a five-wicket win over the Chennai Super Kings in Chepauk.
SRH, on the other hand, were beaten by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on home soil. The 2016 champions have got just one win under their belt from three matches, coming against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the City of Joy.
Both PBKS and SRH possess a strong side with their own separate strengths and weaknesses. Though slightly on the inexperienced side, PBKS’ batting is capable of scoring quickly, with the likes of Priyansh Arya and Shreyas Iyer, amongst others. They have quality in their bowling with veteran T20 players like Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh.
SRH, meanwhile, have heavily relied on their star-studded batting lineup for several years now. Without Pat Cummins, however, their bowling has looked underwhelming this season. The India duo of Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat will need to do a lot of heavy lifting on Saturday.
Here are 3 player battles for PBKS vs SRH, Match 17 of IPL 2026:
3. Shreyas Iyer vs Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel is usually utilised by SRH in the middle overs, where he can expect to face off against PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer. This is a match-up which weighs heavily towards the bowler.
Patel and Iyerhave faced each other four times in the IPL, where the right-arm seamer has dismissed the hard-hitting batter three times. This includes getting the wicket of Iyer last year in Hyderabad, where he scored 82 off just 36 balls.
The former KKR captain has scored just 17 runs from 14 balls against Patel in the history of the IPL.
2. Ishan Kishan vs Yuzvendra Chahal
Ishan Kishan’s much-awaited face-off against Yuzvendra Chahal will also dictate the middle overs of SRH’s innings. The pair have a very close head-to-head record in the IPL.
Kishan has faced Chahalseven times in the tournament, where he has scored 55 runs at a strike-rate of 171.87. The spinner, however, has got the left-hander’s wicket on three occasions.
1. Abhishek Sharma vs Arshdeep Singh
Both Abhishek Sharma and Arshdeep Singh are not only teammates in the Indian setup but also for Punjab in the domestic circuit. This match-up is capable of determining the trajectory of the game on Saturday.
Abhishek has an excellent record against Arshdeep. The left-handed batter has scored 60 runs in the IPL at an amazing strike-rate 171.42. The pacer, meanwhile, has only dismissed his domestic teammate just once.
