The ICC revealed the full fixture list for the 2027 Men's Cricket World Cup at a ceremony in Cape Town on October 1, 2026, exactly one year before the tournament
gets underway. The event runs from October 2 to November 21, 2027, spread across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, with 14 teams competing across 57 matches at 12 venues.
India's group-stage programme opens with two high-profile contests. They meet Australia in Cape Town on October 7, 2027, a rematch of the 2023 World Cup final, before facing Pakistan at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on October 10, 2027.
Former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel welcomed the way India's fixtures have been arranged, saying the spacing between matches gives team management genuine room to handle player fitness, form and workloads across the tournament.
What does Parthiv Patel say about India's 2027 World Cup schedule?
Patel noted that India's schedule places two demanding contests at the front of the group stage, with the remaining fixtures following before the knockout rounds arrive. He said this structure allows the team to rotate core players and build towards the business end of the competition.
"This schedule gives you a chance to play two tough matches right at the start, and then you play the other matches, and when the actual business end of the tournament starts, you try to peak again. So you can do all those things with this schedule: your core players can play the first three or four matches, because you will have to manage fitness, form and workloads in this World Cup. It won't be like you go there and just keep playing every game. Yes, no disrespect to any of the teams, and going into a World Cup, you don't take anyone lightly, because we already experienced that in 2007. So, this schedule definitely allows you to fully manage your players," Parthiv said, speaking to JioStar.
His reference to 2007 underlines the importance India place on not underestimating any opponent, a lesson drawn from their early exit in that edition of the tournament.
How does the 2027 World Cup format and knockout stage work?
The tournament opens with a preliminary Super Series stage on October 2, 2027, before the group stage begins. Teams that advance then move into a Super 7 phase, which feeds into the knockout rounds.
The semi-finals are set for November 17 and 18, 2027, with the final scheduled for November 21, 2027, in Johannesburg. The city also hosts India's group-stage clash against Pakistan at Wanderers Stadium.
