Abhishek Sharmahas created history by becoming the fastest batter to reach 2000 runs in T20 Internationals in terms of balls faced. The left-handed opener
achieved the milestone in just 1024 balls, breaking the previous world record held by Suryakumar Yadav, who had reached the same landmark in 1164 balls.
Abhishek reached the milestone during the third T20I against West Indies in Indore, underlining the remarkable rate at which he has accumulated runs at the international level since his debut. Aaron Finch of Australia is now third on the all-time list, having reached 2000 T20I runs in 1283 balls, a full 259 balls more than Abhishek's new benchmark.
The achievement is all the more striking given how recently Abhishek entered international cricket. He made his T20I debut on July 6, 2024 against Zimbabwe, meaning he has accumulated 2000 runs in the format in a very short span of time. Born on September 4, 2000, the Haryana all-rounder bowls slow left-arm orthodox spin in addition to his aggressive left-handed batting at the top of the order.

What makes Abhishek Sharma's record-breaking milestone so significant?
The key measure of this record is balls faced rather than innings or matches, which makes it a direct reflection of scoring efficiency. Abhishek reached 2000 T20I runs in 1024 balls, compared to Suryakumar's 1164 balls, a difference of 140 balls. That gap underlines how consistently and quickly Abhishek has scored at the international level across his short career.
Abhishek's ability to score at a high strike rate has been evident throughout his T20I career. One of the standout moments came when he scored 135 runs from 54 balls against England in 2025, which is the highest individual score by an Indian batter in T20 Internationals. That innings alone demonstrated the kind of destructive batting that has allowed him to accumulate runs so rapidly in the format.
The record places Abhishek ahead of some of the most celebrated T20 batters in history. Suryakumar, who held the record before this match, is widely regarded as one of the best T20 batters in the world, making it all the more notable that Abhishek has surpassed his milestone by such a clear margin.
