After drawing the curtains down on an illustrious career, Yuvraj Singh has done commendable work, mentoring the likes of Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma.
Both of them have taken the opening role for India in the 2025 Asia Cup. Shubman is also the current Indian Test captain.
At the moment, Yuvraj is training the likes of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh as they look to do perform for India A in the one-dayers against Australia A, starting from September 30 onwards in Kanpur.
Many experts, as well as fans, believe that Yuvraj could do wonders if he takes up a full-time coaching role for an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise. Let's take a look at three teams that could acquire Yuvraj's services as a head coach for the upcoming edition of the IPL.
3 franchises that can hire Yuvraj Singh as head coach for IPL 2026:
3. Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) played an exhilarating brand of cricket last year and made it to the IPL final as Head coach Daniel Vettori's combination with captain Pat Cummins worked like magic. They played ultra-aggressive cricket, putting up totals in excess of 200 for fun.
However, this season, their flamboyant batting came a cropper as they could not mix caution with aggression and got bowled out for some low scores while aiming too high. Yuvraj has played for SRH and also won the title in 2016. He could bring a sense of calmness to the SRH setup and that could help them excel. Abhishek Sharma, who opens for SRH, will also be able to forge a solid partnership with Yuvraj, having been trained under him.
2. Mumbai Indians
Mahela Jayawardene returned as the Mumbai Indians' (MI) head coach ahead of this season. While MI finished last in 2024, the five-time champions managed to reach Qualifier 2. However, the Mumbai Indians have always been a result-oriented team. This is what makes MI one of the most successful cricket franchises around the world.
MI could actually think of signing Yuvraj as the head coach and Jayawardene could become a mentor for the Hardik Pandya-led franchise. Yuvraj won the 2019 IPL title with the Mumbai Indians. He has a great relationship with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Sachin Tendulkar, among others. The 43-year-old's never-say-die attitude could align well with the goals of the Mumbai-based franchise.
1. Kolkata Knight Riders
Yuvraj Singh never had the opportunity to play for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). However, he has always shared a great bond with co-owner Shah Rukh Khan. Gautam Gambhir, KKR's former captain and mentor, has always considered Yuvraj one of the best white-ball players India has ever produced. Chandrakant Pandit parted ways with the franchise after IPL 2025. Yuvraj could take his place as the head coach.
KKR has some talented youngsters in their ranks like Rinku Singh, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Ramandeep Singh among others. They will be able to hone their skills and develop stronger mindsets under Yuvraj's coaching.
