Shubman Gillhas said that he will not hesitate in taking advice from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli at any point in the upcoming ODI series against Australia.
Gill was recently appointed as the ODI captain of the Indian side. He confessed that he admired Rohit and Kohli while growing up. He also described captaining the team with both stalwarts as a "big honour" for him.
"I mean, obviously, these are the kind of players I used to idolise when I was growing up. The kind of hunger that they had used to inspire me. It is a big honour for me to be able to lead such legends of the game. I am sure there would be so many moments in this series where I would be able to learn from them. If I get in a difficult position, I wouldn't shy away from taking advice from them," stated Gill, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Gill also conceded that he has interacted with Rohit and Kohli regarding the way forward for the team.
"Definitely, very exciting. Big shoes for me to fill in to carry forward the legacy of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. I have had so many experiences and so many learnings. I have had numerous conversations with both Rohit and Virat on how to take the team forward and what kind of culture they want for the Indian cricket team. I think those learnings and experiences would help our team going forward," he added.
Indiawill play three ODIs Down Under before playing five 20-over matches. The Men in Blue will commence the white-ball series on Sunday, October 19. The series-opening clash will be played at the in Perth. This will be the first time Gill will be leading the One-Day side as full-time captain.
