Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the ongoing first Test between India and South Africa, being played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The India captain
had experienced neck pain while batting on the second day that also forced him to retire himself and walk back to the dressing room with just three balls into his stay at the crease.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India made an official update regarding his injury. Meanwhile, the Indian team will be led by interim skipper Rishabh Pant in the absence of Gill. The team management has further confirmed that Gill will be under the strict observation of the BCCI's medical staff, but won't be able to take any part in the remainder of the Test match.
“Captain Shubman Gill had a neck injury on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of day's play. He is currently under observation in the hospital. He will take no further part in the Test match.
