The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to disclose Team India's 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand on Saturday,
January 3. The three-match series will commence in Vadodara on January 11, whereas, Rajkot will host the second encounter on January 14. The third and final match has been scheduled at Indore's Holkar Cricket Stadium on January 18.
According to reports, a board official, privy to the development, has confirmed that the All India Men's Senior Selection Committee will be meeting through online mode on Saturday to lock in the unit who will represent the Men in Blue for the upcoming series. Notably, the selection committee is headed by Ajit Agarkar, whereas, Pragyan Ojha, RP Singh, and SS Das are also forming parts.
"The national selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, will meet online on Jan 3 to finalise the squad," a BCCI source told The Times of India.
The series has garnered widespread attention already, as this might will be the first-ever assignment for the Indian team in 2026. This is also slated to be the only home series for senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the calendar year, as teams are supposed to travel overseas in the second half of the year. As a result, fans are also eagerly awaiting the chance to witness their favourite cricketers in action.
Apart from the experienced duo, India are likely to be captained by opener Shubman Gill. Shreyas Iyer, the expected vice-captain, however, may not return to action. For the unversed, Iyer has been recuperating from his spleen injury that occurred in October 2025 during the series against Australia. He is expected to continue his rehabilitation for at least one more week at the Centre of Excellence facility in Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, the selectors are also likely to give rest to Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah, while keeping the workload management, as the duo will be playing crucial respective roles in India's title defence at the T20 World Cup 2026, starting February 7.
