Vaibhav Suryavanshi has played another blinder of an innings, this time on the opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 at the JSCA Oval Ground in Ranchi.
The Arunachal Pradesh bowlers were on the receiving end of this onslaught on Wednesday, December 24.
The 14-year-old smashed 190 off just 84 balls after Sakibul Gani won the toss and opted to bat first. During his epic knock, Suryavanshi belted 16 fours and 15 sixes. When he was eventually dismissed by Techi Neri, caught by Techi Doria, his strike rate read a staggering 226.19.
Earlier in the day, the left-handed batter got to the three-figure mark off just 36 deliveries. This helped him record the second-fastest century by an Indian in List A history.
The Indian benchmark for List A’s fastest century is currently 35 balls, set by Punjab’s Anmolpreet Singh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last season. Suryavanshi’s 36 now slots just behind that and also sits among the quickest List A centuries overall, a list which has Jake Fraser-McGurk (29) sitting pretty at the top, followed by AB de Villiers (31).
When Suryavanshi got out after playing a blistering knock, Bihar had already gone past the 260-run mark inside 27 overs. The opening batter has ensured that his team gets to a mammoth first-innings total to start their campaign in the 50-over competition.
Such was Suryavanshi's carnage that no Arunachal Pradesh bowler managed to have an economy rate below 7 during his stay at the crease. Tech Neri leaked runs at an economy rate of more than 15 runs an over while Suryavanshi was at the crease.
Suryavanshi recently played in the U-19 Asia Cup, where he finished fourth on the list of highest run-getters in the tournament. However, he could only play a 10-ball 26-run cameo in the final against Pakistan as India lost the match by 191 runs in Dubai last week.
