A former Ranji player has alleged involvement in match-fixing during the 2025 Indian Premier League season, claiming he earned substantial sums by passing
confidential information to bookmakers operating from London. The allegations emerged during an investigation into cricket's fixing networks, with the player detailing his methods and financial gains from the scheme.
According to the investigation, the former cricketer met with reporters at the Dhaka Cricket Academy in North Delhi in December 2025 and disclosed his involvement in match-fixing activities. He outlined his role in passing inside information and claimed to have profited significantly from the arrangement, as reported by Tehelka.
"I fixed five matches during the 2025 Indian Premier League [IPL] season by passing inside information about the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to bookies in London via Snapchat. I earned Rs 60 lakh per match, totaling Rs 3 crore for those five matches," cricketer Rachit Bhatia told Tehelka.
Alleged 2025 IPL match-fixing scheme and earlier spot-fixing claims
The player detailed how he transmitted confidential information to bookmakers using a messaging application. He claimed to have earned Rs 60 lakh for each of the five matches he fixed, bringing his total earnings from the 2025 IPL season to Rs 3 crore through this arrangement.
The former cricketer also disclosed his involvement in spot-fixing during the 2018-19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a tournament he participated in. He claimed to have deliberately bowled two wide balls in exchange for money from bookmakers.
"I also engaged in spot-fixing during the 2018-19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a tournament I played in. I deliberately bowled two wide balls, receiving Rs 8 lakh per ball from the bookies, making a total of Rs 16 lakh," Bhatia added.
The player further alleged that he paid a bribe to secure his selection in a Ranji Trophy team during the 2018-19 season. This claim adds another dimension to the allegations of corruption within domestic cricket structures.
"Furthermore, I paid a bribe of Rs 15 lakh to secure my selection in the Nagaland Ranji Trophy team, making my Ranji debut during the 2018-19 season," he revealed further.
Proposed 2026 fixing rates and selection involvement
The player offered to extend his fixing operations into the 2026 IPL and Delhi Premier League seasons, outlining specific rates for his services. He explained that his involvement would depend on securing the selection of a player friend into the Chennai Super Kings squad through the auction process, after which he would provide confidential team information.
"If you want to fix matches in IPL 2026, we need to get my player onto the team. Once he is selected, both match-fixing and spot-fixing become possible. The rate for spot-fixing in the IPL will be Rs 1 crore per match," Bhatia claimed.
"Sharing inside information regarding the playing XI before the toss will cost Rs 60 lakh per match. This same player will also compete in the Delhi Premier League [DPL] this year. The rate for spot-fixing and providing the playing XI there will be Rs 40 lakh per match," he added.
The player claimed to hold a position within the domestic cricket administration structure, managing selection processes for young cricketers. He alleged that he was involved in forming and selecting teams for national school tournaments across multiple age groups.
"Presently, I work as a national selector and coach, forming a Delhi school cricket team from local students to compete in national school tournaments. I manage three age groups—Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19. Alongside two other selectors, I choose the Delhi team, and the rate for selecting a child is between Rs 7 and 8 lakh," the 29-year-old opened up further.
