After an eventful couple of rounds of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 in Jaipur, star batter Rohit Sharma has flown back to his home in Mumbai, and is unlikely
to take any further part for his side for the remainder of the tournament. Mumbai have Elite Group C games remaining against Chhattisgarh, Goa, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab. However, they will be without Rohit as the premier feature in their line-up.
Rohit enjoyed his first match, smashing a 94-ball 155, studded with 18 boundaries and nine maximums, against Sikkim, in front of a packed crowd at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Courtesy of his heroics, Mumbai comfortably chased down a 237-run target to make a solid start to their campaign in the premier List-A competition.
Unfortunately, the senior batter could not carry forward the form into the second game, scoring a golden duck. Despite the early dismissal, Mumbai were able to thrash the opposition by 51 runs to make it two in two on the points table. Rohit, who played his favourite pull shot off pace Devendra Singh Bora, was caught at the deep fine leg on the first ball of the match, bringing an early end to his stay at the crease.
According to multiple reports in the media, Rohit Sharma has now left the dressing room, flying back to his hometown, and is expected to feature for the Indian team in the upcoming One-Day International series against New Zealand. The series will feature three encounters, starting January 11 at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, while the second and third matches will be played in Rajkot and Indore, respectively.
If the reports are to be believed, the Men's Senior Selection Committee will be picking India's 15-man squad for the series on or before January 4, with Shubman Gill expected to lead the side. The former India skipper, meanwhile, will be seen opening alongside Gill. The top-order will be completed by the presence of Virat Kohli, who has also enjoyed some quality time in Bengaluru for Delhi's VHT encounters.
