dismissal was circulated on social media which showed a clear gap between Fernando's bat and the ball at the moment of delivery, yet the on-field umpire raised the finger and Fernando was sent back to the pavilion.

Sri Lanka's innings and Bangladesh bowling
The match was the 3rd Place Play Off between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at Kōrogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The venue had previously hosted the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific Sub-regional Qualifier, and a temporary stand was built to raise its capacity to 2,000.
Despite the controversy surrounding Fernando's dismissal, Sri Lanka posted 165/9 in their 20 overs. Tharindu Ratnayake was the standout performer with the bat, scoring 65 runs off 32 balls in an innings that included seven fours and five sixes. Sahan Arachchige contributed 33 runs. For Bangladesh, Mahedi Hasanand Saif Hassan each claimed two wickets during Sri Lanka's innings, with Hasan finishing with figures of 2/19 and Hassan 2/28.
Bangladesh's chase and Sri Lanka's bowling performance
Bangladesh's chase never gained traction and they were bowled out for 102 in 17.3 overs, falling 63 runs short. Nasum Ahmed top-scored with 26 off 28 balls, hitting two fours and a six, but no other batter offered sustained resistance. Sri Lanka's bowlers shared the wickets evenly across the attack: Wanuja Sahan took 2/17, Ratnayake added 2/18, Nuwan Thushara finished with 2/18, and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth also claimed two wickets.
Sri Lanka's victory secured the bronze medal in men's cricket at the Asian Games 2026. It was the third medal for the island nation at these Games, following Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage's gold in the men's javelin and the women's cricket team's silver. The men's cricket event ran from September 24 to October 3, 2026, with 10 teams competing in Twenty20 format, marking cricket's fourth appearance at the Asian Games.
