What is the story about?
Pakistan has reinstated Babar Azam as Test captain, replacing Shan Masood ahead of the upcoming Test series against the West Indies and England, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Sunday.
Masood, who took over the captaincy from Babar in November 2023, steps down after a difficult tenure. The left-hander led Pakistan in 16 Tests, losing 12 of them, with his position coming under intense scrutiny following the team's 2-0 home series defeat to Bangladesh in May.
Babar returns to the role as Pakistan prepares for a two-Test series against the West Indies from July 25 to August 6, followed by a three-Test tour of England from August 19 to September 13.
