Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan has been named as Sai Sudharsan's replacement in India's squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, the BCCI announced on Sunday.
Sudharsan suffered a toe injury during India's A tour of Sri Lanka last month and has been recovering at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.
The BCCI said the left-hander has made significant progress but remains under the supervision of its medical team.
"The men's Selection Committee has named Sarfaraz Khan as a replacement for Sai Sudharsan for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. He will link up with the Indian squad in Colombo before the team travels to Galle for the first Test match, starting August 15, 2026," the BCCI said in a release.
The call-up marks Sarfaraz's return to the Indian Test squad after he last featured against New Zealand in Mumbai in 2024.
The 28-year-old has played six Tests for India since making his debut and will now provide another batting option for the side ahead of the series opener in Galle.
India had already lost pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the tour due to injury, with Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi named as his replacement.
The two-Test series against Sri Lanka begins at Galle on August 15, with the second Test scheduled in Colombo from August 23.
