Introducing the Camper Variant
Volkswagen has officially announced the 2027 iteration of its popular electric bus, quashing any rumors of its discontinuation after skipping the 2026
model year. A significant highlight is the introduction of the 'Tourer 4Motion' trim, engineered to transform the electric vehicle into a capable electric camper. Drawing inspiration from European camping packages, this new variant is equipped with a fold-out mattress and a dedicated sleeping platform, complemented by integrated window blinds for privacy. It also features specialized front ventilation panels to ensure comfort while sleeping, along with a practical stowable table and chairs for outdoor use. To further enhance the camping experience, a unique 'Overnight Mode' has been developed. This innovative system intelligently adjusts interior lighting, climate control, and power management settings to optimize conditions for occupants resting inside, ensuring a more comfortable and uninterrupted sleep.
Enhanced Features for All
Beyond the specialized camper model, the entire 2027 electric bus lineup benefits from several noteworthy enhancements designed to improve convenience and usability. A key addition is the inclusion of a NACS adapter as standard equipment, simplifying access to Tesla Supercharger networks without requiring separate purchases or complex installations. Furthermore, the 'one pedal drive' functionality is now universally standard across all available trims, offering a more intuitive and efficient driving experience. For added versatility, the updated models will feature a retractable tow hitch, allowing for greater hauling capabilities. The interior also sees upgrades with the availability of second-row captain's chairs for improved passenger comfort, and an electrochromic panoramic sunroof that can be adjusted for tint. Parking and maneuvering are also made easier with the integration of 360-degree cameras, and the vehicles will sport stylish 20-inch dark graphite wheels.
Software and Connectivity
The 2027 electric bus receives a significant boost in its digital capabilities with the integration of Volkswagen's updated ID.6 infotainment software. This advanced system boasts a completely redesigned navigation interface, making route planning and discovery more user-friendly. New functionalities include 'myQ Connected Garage' for remote access to home garages, enhancing security and convenience. The 'TravelAssist' feature has been improved with capabilities for assisted lane changes, contributing to a more relaxed and safer driving experience on highways. Additionally, for moments of downtime, the infotainment screen now supports 'AirConsole gaming,' turning the vehicle into an entertainment hub. To further enrich the ownership experience, a one-year complimentary trial of the 'In-Vehicle Premium' subscription is bundled with every purchase. This premium service unlocks advanced features like ChatGPT voice interaction, access to over 30,000 radio stations from around the globe, and a reliable in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot. For aesthetic customization, buyers can choose from a selection of two-tone color options, including a new and appealing Candy White over Cherry Red combination.
