Introducing the E7 Frontier
Microsoft is expanding its productivity suite with a new top-tier offering, Microsoft 365 E7, set for general availability on May 1, 2026. This comprehensive
package is priced at $99 per user per month, representing a substantial increase compared to current offerings. The E7 suite is designed to bundle advanced artificial intelligence capabilities and robust security features, aiming to cater to enterprise clients seeking to leverage AI for enhanced operational efficiency. This strategic move by Microsoft signifies a commitment to integrating cutting-edge AI technology directly into its core business productivity tools, providing a unified platform for both enhanced performance and trusted management of AI-driven workflows. The introduction of E7 also incorporates the upcoming Agent 365, a control plane for managing AI agents across an organization, alongside the established Entra Suite for identity management and advanced Defender and Intune for security and device management, all powered by Work IQ for unified security and productivity.
Advanced AI Features
The E7 suite prominently features Copilot AI, Microsoft's flagship artificial intelligence assistant, which is priced at $30 per user per month as a standalone add-on. Beyond the standard Copilot functionalities, the E7 tier includes "Copilot Cowork," a new research preview available through Microsoft's Frontier program starting March 2026. Developed in collaboration with Anthropic, Copilot Cowork is engineered to manage extended, multi-step tasks, such as scheduling emails, preparing meeting materials, and coordinating internal communications. Additionally, "Next-gen Agentic Experiences" will be embedded directly within Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Copilot Chat, rolling out in March 2026. These agentic experiences aim to streamline complex workflows by enabling AI to perform more sophisticated, autonomous tasks. The integration of Anthropic's Claude model into Copilot Chat, alongside OpenAI models, through the Frontier program, further demonstrates Microsoft's commitment to a model-diverse AI ecosystem, offering users access to a broader range of AI intelligence.
Agent Management & Security
A key component of the new Microsoft 365 E7 suite is Agent 365, a dedicated product for managing AI agents, scheduled for general availability on May 1, 2026, at $15 per user per month. This tool acts as a control plane, empowering IT and security leaders to effectively observe, govern, and secure AI agents deployed across their organization. This focus on governance is crucial as AI adoption grows, ensuring that automated processes align with organizational policies and security protocols. The E7 suite itself, priced at $99 per user per month, consolidates the capabilities of the E5 plan, Copilot, and Agent 365, offering a unified security and productivity solution. It also includes the Entra Suite for enhanced identity and access management, advanced Defender for threat protection, and Intune for device management, all powered by Work IQ. This integrated approach aims to provide a secure and efficient environment for businesses to harness the full potential of AI within their operations, addressing both productivity gains and the inherent security challenges.
