At Google I/O 2026, a significant leap in AI capability was unveiled with Gemini Spark, a new agent engineered to autonomously manage tasks and errands.
Unlike traditional AI assistants that require constant user oversight, Gemini Spark is designed to take a given objective and see it through to completion without requiring the user to remain actively involved. This is made possible by its architecture, which leverages dedicated virtual machines. Once a task is assigned, users are free to disengage from their devices – be it a laptop or computer – as Gemini Spark operates in the background, ensuring the task progresses to completion without interruption. This fundamental shift from reactive assistance to proactive task management signifies a new era in how we interact with artificial intelligence for daily productivity and complex projects.
Advanced AI Foundation
The distinctiveness of Gemini Spark stems from its powerful underlying technology. It is built upon the cutting-edge Gemini 3.5 model, augmented by Google's proprietary Antigravity harness. This powerful combination grants Gemini Spark the ability to handle extended and intricate tasks in a background operational mode. When a user delegates a job, Gemini Spark intelligently dissects it into sequential steps. It then seamlessly navigates and interacts across various applications, managing each step without the need for user intervention. This means you can initiate a job and then fully detach, allowing the AI to execute it independently. Evolving Integration and Access
Currently, Gemini Spark's operational scope is primarily confined to Google's native applications, such as Gmail, Drive, and Docs. However, the company has ambitious plans for future expansion, intending to integrate Gemini Spark with a wide array of third-party tools. Concurrently, the cost of the existing premium AI Ultra plan is being reduced from $250 to $200 per month. Later in the year, Gemini Spark is slated to operate directly within the Google Chrome browser as a dedicated browser agent. Additionally, Google is developing a centralized platform for agents on Android, known as Android Halo, to enhance their integration and accessibility within the mobile ecosystem.
