The Collision Unfolds
A Friday night in Bengaluru witnessed a startling turn of events when a two-wheeler, carrying two young women, collided with a taxi. The impact, which
occurred on Bannerghatta Road, resulted in the riders falling onto the street and causing damage to the rear left side of the cab. The driver of the taxi, a 47-year-old man named Ahmed Gurkar, stated in his complaint that after assisting the fallen individuals, he attempted to discuss the damage to his vehicle. However, his request for compensation was met with severe verbal abuse and a physical assault from the two students, identified as 19-year-old Liza and 18-year-old Amran Mathew, both reportedly intoxicated at the time.
Escalation and Intervention
The situation rapidly deteriorated as the intoxicated students, reportedly still under the influence of alcohol, escalated their aggression by using their helmets to assault Mr. Gurkar. Their volatile behavior extended to bystanders who attempted to de-escalate the conflict, as the students also directed their aggression towards those who intervened. Alerted by a passerby who contacted the emergency helpline 112, the Hulimavu police swiftly arrived at the scene. Even the arrival of law enforcement did little to calm the situation, as the students resisted efforts to be placed into a police vehicle, leading to a brief but noticeable disturbance before they were ultimately taken to the Hulimavu police station. Their parents were subsequently summoned.
Legal Ramifications
Following the tumultuous incident, the police initiated legal proceedings against the two students. A case was officially registered against Liza and Amran Mathew. Despite the serious nature of the assault and the disruption caused, the students were released in the early hours of Saturday morning, around 3 am. Their release was conditional upon their parents being present, and they were issued a notice by the authorities, indicating a formal warning and potential future action depending on further developments. The police officer on duty confirmed the registration of the case and the subsequent release under parental supervision.
