This included requests for details about U.S. citizens, research into online forums, and intelligence on the locations of federal buildings. Furthermore, these accounts sought guidance on the use of face-swapping software, hinting at potential disinformation campaigns or identity manipulation. They also generated English-language communications directed at U.S. state-level officials and policy analysts in the business and finance sectors, extending invitations for paid consultations. Separately, a cluster of ChatGPT accounts was found to be running a dating scam with a significant impact, particularly targeting Indonesian men. OpenAI estimates that this scam may have defrauded hundreds of victims monthly. The fraudulent dating service employed ChatGPT to create alluring promotional content and advertisements, enticing users to join the platform. Once engaged, victims were pressured into completing tasks that required substantial financial outlays.
