To combat fuel consumption during peak traffic times, the Chief Minister has advocated for staggered office hours and an increased reliance on public transportation. This includes encouraging the use of Metro services, buses, and shared rides, alongside promoting cycling and electric vehicles as viable alternatives. A novel proposal is the institution of a weekly 'No Vehicle Day,' with an appeal to ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assembly, government employees, students, and the general public to participate by opting for public transport at least once a week. The CM has also urged citizens to be mindful of electricity usage, advising the conservation of power by limiting unnecessary lighting in homes, workplaces, and commercial spaces, especially after 10 p.m. An additional recommendation is to postpone non-essential international travel for the next six months and to prioritize organizing domestic weddings and events, aligning with the broader national push for fuel-saving and austerity measures as previously encouraged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
