Air India's Fee Structure
Air India's approach to flight cancellations involves distinct fees based on the cabin class and the timing of the cancellation. For instance, in the Economy cabin, a 'Comfort' fare might incur a ₹4,000 cancellation fee if done within 72 hours of departure, escalating to ₹3,500 for cancellations between 72 hours and within 72 hours (a slight ambiguity in source, interpreted as >72hrs vs within 72hrs), with a potentially lower fee of ₹2,500 if over 72 hours out. Premium Economy and Business classes also have tiered fees, with 'Flex' fares often allowing free changes or cancellations under specific timeframes, such as over 72 or 48 hours before departure, but charging fees like ₹3,000 or ₹2,000 if made closer to the flight. First Class fares typically offer more flexibility, with free changes and cancellations often permitted within 24 hours of departure.
IndiGo's Fare Tiers
IndiGo differentiates its cancellation charges across its fare categories, including Lite Fare, Regular Fare, Flexi Plus Fare, and Return Fare, for both domestic and international flights. Akasa Air, a relatively new player, presents its cancellation charges based on fare types: 'Saver' and 'Flexi', applicable to both change fees and cancellation charges. For cancellations made within 3 days of departure, both Saver and Flexi fares are subject to a charge of ₹3,350 for changes and ₹3,600 for cancellations, with the option for 100% of the airfare charge or the specified amount, whichever is lower. Moving to 4 days and above before departure, the change fee for Saver fares is ₹2,850 plus any fare difference, while the cancellation charge is ₹3,100 or 100% of the airfare. SpiceJet's Fee Framework
SpiceJet's cancellation and change scenarios are structured around the proximity to the flight departure. For cancellations, if made within 24 hours of booking and the departure is more than seven days away, there is no charge (NIL*). However, for cancellations made within 96 hours of departure but not fitting the initial 24-hour window, a charge of INR 3,600 applies. Cancellations made before 96 hours of departure incur a fee of INR 3,100. Regarding changes, if made within 24 hours of booking with more than seven days until departure, only the fare difference is applied. Within 96 hours of departure, changes cost INR 3,350 plus any fare difference, while changes made before 96 hours of departure are priced at INR 2,850 plus the fare difference.
