The Clock's Ticking
The current ITR filing deadline is looming, with the September 15 date fast approaching. CA Ritu Gupta has requested an extension to October 31, 2025,
due to late utility releases, heavy rainfall, and conflicting audit dates, stating chartered accountants are not AI who can work in adverse conditions. This year's situation is notably different.
Delayed Utilities Impact
The timely release of return forms and filing utilities is crucial for a smooth tax season. Last year, ITR-1 to ITR-4 and ITR-6 were released on April 1, 2024, with ITR-5 on May 31 and ITR-7 on June 21, providing ample time. This year, delays are impacting taxpayers.
Industry Appeals for Relief
The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry has written to the CBDT, highlighting delays in utility releases for AY 2025–26. The Chandigarh Chartered Taxation Association (CCATAX) has also requested an extension. These pleas underscore the challenges faced by professionals and taxpayers.
Potential Extension Outlook
Given the various challenges, an extension seems likely. The CBDT considers these requests carefully. We have to wait and see if the deadline will be extended to provide relief to taxpayers and tax professionals, helping to ensure accurate and stress-free filings.
