While all eyes were on stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, it was actually Emraan Hashmi who walked away with maximum attention. Though the entire Goa chunk was a hilarious portion where Emraan puts in all his efforts to ensure Aasmaan and Karishma crack the "mirroring" technique during their intimacy classes, for which he even pretends to be a strict, no-nonsense coach. Given Emraan's own filmography is loaded with movies with high intimacy that gave him the tag of Bollywood's "serial kisser", his role was easy for the audience to accept and take a jibe.However, if we give it a closer thought and try to understand what exactly an intimacy coach does in our films, it'll be a tad different from what Emraan did for the laughs.

After decades of running the business without this person, it is for the benefit of actors that the profession has finally found its way into our cinema.According to its definition, an intimacy coach helps actors feel safe while enacting physical intimacy onscreen. How do they design intimate scenes?

Before such scenes, they collaborate with actors and directors to choreograph (just like stunt coordinators) the action, camera angles and physical contact to establish boundaries and create a safe environment for sensitive content, making the set ethical and comfortable.The role and need of an intimacy coordinator gained strength following the #MeToo movement. Gehraiyaan was a recent film that roped in intimacy director Dar Gai for designing love-making scenes between Deepika Padukone and Siddhant Chaturvedi.
