One of the most popular new age communication platform, Discord, has faced a data breach of a severe level. It has been revealed officially that a data security breach has exposed crucial details of users
due to a vulnerability in of Discord's third-party provider's system. The hackers also tried to extort money from Discord, which was met with nothing but disappointment. As officially announced by Discord, the breach happened when a third party support provider was compromised. The hackers gained access to personal information of the users and contacted the 'Trust and Safety' and Customer Support teams of Discord to extort money, which was their ultimate goal behind stealing the data.
All Details About The Data Breach And Its Aftermath
Discord has mentioned that details like IP addresses, name, Discord name, email, billing information, payment type, last four digit of credit cards, purchase history, messages with customer services, and other stuff have been leaked in the breach, which shows how high-risk this is. Apart from that, it has also been revealed that a minute number of government IDs like passports and Driver's License have also leaked online, exposing the age of the users as well. As for the solutions, Discord has already started notifying users about the breach via the official email. They have also said that all the affected users will be informed if their ID documents have been compromised or not. In addition, Discord has asked the users to avoid any suspicious communication, and no Discord official will be calling them on the matter. The company has already revoked the access of the affected provider and triggered an internal investigation as well. To speed up the process of resolution, Discord has even hired a computer forensics company.
