
A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Assam and parts of the northeast, including Guwahati, on Sunday evening, with tremors also felt in north Bengal. The quake, recorded at 4:41 pm with its epicentre in Udalguri district, triggered panic as residents rushed out of homes and offices. Officials said there were no immediate reports of casualties or structural damage. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority said that monitoring is underway, and there is "no cause for alarm".People in Assam reported feeling strong tremors across Guwahati, Dhekiajuli, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, Nalbari, Udalguri and several nearby districts. The quake was also felt in Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh (including Itanagar), and parts of north Bengal such as Siliguri, Jalpaiguri,
Dooars, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar.
