
Oscar-nominated actor Saoirse Ronan is reportedly in talks to play Linda McCartney in Sam Mendes’ ambitious The Beatles - A Four-Film Cinematic Event. According to Deadline, multiple sources have suggested that the Little Women and Lady Bird star will portray Paul McCartney’s first wife in one of the interconnected biopics, with Aftersun actor Paul Mescal taking on the role of Paul himself. Sony has yet to confirm the casting.The project, directed by Mendes, is set to explore the lives of each member of The Beatles through four separate but interlinked films - one from the perspective of each Beatle. The cast reportedly includes Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon. Dickinson, who
recently made his directorial debut with Urchin, described the challenge of portraying Lennon as “frightening” in an interview with The Times.
Ringo Starr, who met with Mendes earlier this year, revealed that he requested a few script changes but is now “much more satisfied” with how he is depicted. I’ve been trying to make a film about them for years. The four-time Oscar nominee was recently seen in The Outrun and Steve McQueen’s Blitz, and her dark comedy Bad Apples premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. She’s also set to star opposite Austin Butler in Deep Cuts, a music drama based on Holly Brickley’s debut novel.Linda McCartney, a celebrated photographer and musician, met Paul in 1967 and remained married to him until her death in 1998. She later joined his band Wings and became a passionate animal rights advocate, publishing vegetarian cookbooks and founding a successful food brand.While official confirmation is still pending, the prospect of Ronan stepping into Linda McCartney’s shoes has already generated huge excitement - a fitting buzz for what promises to be one of the most ambitious music biopic projects in years.
