is going on in Wayanad Congress? Just two days after a visit by party MP Priyanka Gandhi to the constitutency, the president of the District Congress Committee put down his papers.
Wayanad Congress Chief Resigns
Wayanad DCC chief ND Appachan resigned from his position amidst reports that the party is rife with internal conflicts amongst the local leadership. Appachan refused to give any details as to why he resigned but said that he had informed the party leadership of his decision, adding that it was for the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) to decide whether to accept his resignation or not. "If they accept it, I will go. If they want me to continue, let them say so," he said, adding that he was "not very keen" on continuing as DCC president.
Resignation Comes Days After Priyanka Gandhi's Visit
Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi had just concluded her week-long visit to the constituency.The Wayanad unit has seen a series of controversies, particularly a string of suicides by its workers. In December 2024, its former treasurer NM Vijayan and his son died by suicide. This was followed by Jose Nelledem, a grama panchayat member in Mullankolly, who died by suicide on September 12 this year. Just last week, Vijayan's daughter-in-law Padmaja Vijesh had attempted suicide, as per reports.
