At New York Comic Con, author George RR Martin, showrunner Ira Parker, and actors Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell shared the trailer with fans. On social media, HBO Max posted, "A tall tale that became legend. The new #GameOfThrones series, #AKnightoftheSevenKingdoms, premieres January 18 on HBO Max."

The trailer shows Dunk's journey from squire to knight as he becomes Ser Duncan the Tall. He swears to protect the weak and innocent as he travels to the Ashford tourney. There, many people, including several arrogant Targaryens, believe him to be an ordinary man. With Egg as his squire, Dunk begins to believe he can become the knight he was meant to be.The official synopsis states, “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros, a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Since Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas have lesser content, the first season has six episodes of 30 minutes each. The first episode will stream on January 18 and the last episode on February 25.
