On September 30, Korean media reported that according to attorney Ko Sang Rok of Phil Law Firm, Soo-Hyun wrote letters to his "lover" while serving in the military post enlistment in October 2017. Ko Sang Rok, who is handling Kim Soo-hyun’s criminal case, stated, "After reviewing Kim Soo-hyun’s military service records, multiple letters addressed to his partner remain. The content clearly distinguishes the relationship from that with the late Kim Sae-ron."As per report, the actor exchanged around 150 letters from January 2018 to discharge, which he personally delivered during vacations.

He mentioned about this in his diary entry from July 30, 2018. It read, "I’m definitely going to go on a trip with her this time next year. I’ll do everything new and never done before with her. We will go far for a long time. I want to cherish and love each other deeply, but sometimes fight and make up. Contradiction with Kim Sae-Ron's letter

According to Attorney Ko, "While expressions like ‘I love you’ and ‘I miss you’ appear in letters to his partner, those sent to the deceased only contained reflections on military life or weather-related topics. They were later confused with letters from the actual dating period, distorting the timeline to suggest they were in a relationship during his military service."This strongly refutes allegations that Soo-Hyun was in a romantic relationship with Sae-Ron during his military service. It was argued that the letter sent to the late actress was different, and not a love letter, but a collection of reflections on military life.
