Bala's
debut film Gandhi Kannadi which released in cinemas on September 5th, clashing with Sivakarthikeyan's Madharaasi, is streaming on a popular OTT platform. Bala, who shot to fame with Kalakka Povathu Yaaru and Cook With Comali starred in the film directed by Sherief. The film co-starring Balaji Sakthivel, opened to mixed reviews when it released in theatres.

Gandhi Kannadi is now streaming on Prime Video in Tamil with English subtitles.Gandhi Kannadi also stars Namita Krishnamurthy, Archana, Madhan, Amudhavaanan, Sharath Ravi, Jeeva Subramanian, and Nikhila Sankar, among others, in key roles. The film revolves around Gandhi's (Balaji Sakthivel) wish of conducting the 60th wedding anniversary for his wife. As he tries to arrange money, he sells his ancestral land. Unfortunately, the cash he receives in Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes for the land which becomes invalid due to the demonetisation order imposed in 2016. The rest of the story follows his pursuit, along with Kathir (Bala), who holds an event management company. Shereif, the film's director, who made his debut with Vaibhav's Ranam-Aram Thavarel, stated that Gandhi Kannadi completed 25 days in the theatres. Sharing the news, the director wrote on his social media handles, "25 days of Gandhi Kannadi, but a lifetime of memories. Every clap, every smile, every tear you gave us has become our true success. Members of the Shiv Sena party filed a case against actor Bala for reportedly featuring scenes and dialogues that disrespect Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The case was filed at the Office of Commissioner of Police in Chennai. Further, a controversy began on social media claiming that actor KPY Bala's donations to the less fortunate were fake. One section of netizens doubted his actions and shared videos on the internet. Instead, Bala released a video explaining his stance over the matter. In the video, he denied the allegations, insisting his actions were fair and genuinely helped people. He said "They say that if you do bad things, you will get into trouble, but even if you do good things, you will get into trouble. If those who misunderstood my actions and posted the video on YouTube are happy, that is our happiness too, “People understood my explanation. If I cheated anyone and took money, let them file a complaint about it. But I am working hard for the people.
