Kumar's hit film Good Bad Ugly which premiered on Netflix a few months ago is no longer available for streaming. This move comes in following a court order regarding the unauthorised use of Ilaiyaraaja's songs in the action drama.
Ajith's Good Bad Ugly Is Not Available On Netflix, Here's Why
Justice N Senthilkumar issued a verdict restraining the producers from exhibiting the film with music tracks composed by Ilaiyaraaja. The film's removal from Netflix was prompted by copyright infringement concerns. Legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja, whose songs such as Ottha Ruba Tharen, En Jodi Manja Kuruvi, and Ilamai Idho Idho featured in the film, had questioned the use of his songs in the film as he claimed they were taken without permission. He demanded Rs 5 crore and a written apology from the makers before taking things legally.
Ilaiyaraaja filed a copyright infringement suit against Mythri Movie Makers, the producers of the film, and accused them of including of his popular tracks without proper authorisation or royalty settlement. Justice N Senthilkumar's verdict barred the producers using Ilaiyaraaja's songs. This court's decision led Netflix to remove the film. This isn't the first time Ilaiyaraaja has filed a copyright case over unauthorised use of songs. Previously, he had sent legal notices to the makers of Malayalam film Manjummel Boys as well.Directed by Aadhik Ravichandran, Good Bad Ugly was released in cinemas on April 10 and streamed on Netflix from May 8. The film starred Ajith Kumar, Trisha, Arjun Das, Prasanna, Prabhu, and Sunil.
