He revealed that he indeed felt "uncomfortable" while being behind the camera.Cena's Christopher Smith/Peacemaker and Jennifer Holland's Amelia Harcourt kiss is one of the most emotional scenes of Peacemaker Season 2. It was however, also the most awkward moment Gunn has ever directed, the filmmaker shared. During a recent episode of the official Peacemaker podcast released after the season two finale aired, Gunn opened up on the sequence.
James Gunn recalled feeling 'awkward' while shooting
In the podcast, Holland asks her director-husband how weird it would've been seeing your wife kissing another man on camera. Though she stated it wasn't for her as she was an actress, and hence felt very "technical" for her. Gunn further explained that why the particular sequence was especially technical given the phantom camera and different angles used in the scene and it required multiple takes.“And it wasn’t only that I had to direct you kissing a man, it was that I had to direct you kissing a man in front of 200, 300 extras or more, a lot of whom were fans. So it was just the whole thing was kinda weird before it happened. I was uncomfortable about it, admittedly," Gunn shared.“I was like, ‘I don’t want to do this.’ But then once we were doing it, I was [OK], I didn’t give a shit. I was looking at the kiss as like I’m f*ckin’ loving it because [it was] these beautiful shots. Some of our best shots ever from the series are in that sequence," he added, noting how it became one of the show’s most beautiful and emotional moments, blending tension, romance, and chaos in true Peacemaker style.

His wife, Shay, is like down on the [set].”Gunn revealed, “Shay was sitting beside me. She was with me the whole time watching it. So yeah, Shay was hanging out with me while I was directing because it was warmer up there, and she was watching on the monitor.”John Cena’s Peacemaker is expected to play a big role in the next Superman film, Man of Tomorrow.
