Life in Dharwad was thrown into chaos on Thursday as hundreds of job aspirants took to the streets to demand urgent government action to fill long-standing vacancies. The protest, organised by the All Karnataka State Students Association (AKSSA), brought traffic to a standstill for nearly four hours as demonstrators blocked a key junction in the city.
Mass Protest at Jubilee Circle Disrupts Traffic
The aspirants marched from Sri Nagar, proceeding along College Road before gathering at Jubilee Circle, where they staged a dharna. The protest caused severe disruption to vehicular movement, including public transport buses. The demonstrators voiced their frustration at the State government’s delay in filling vacancies across departments. Kanth Kumar, State President of AKSSA, addressed the crowd, saying delays have caused significant hardships for aspirants preparing for competitive exams. Speakers pointed out that recruitment for constable and sub-inspector posts has been stalled for over four years, while FDA and SDA positions have remained vacant for more than seven years.They urged the government to provide a minimum age relaxation of five years, noting that many aspirants have now exceeded the age limit due to prolonged delays.Protest March to Deputy Commissioner’s Office
