Infiltration Bid Foiled in Kupwara’s Keran Sector In Jammu and Kashmir, 2 Terrorists Killed

Two terrorists were killed as security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara on Sunday. The security forces had detected the movement of terrorists early

morning around 4:00 am in Kupwara's Keran sector. Acting swiftly, the forces launched an operation during which two terrorists were gunned down. A search operation is currently underway in the area. This comes a day after a senior BSF official said the terrorists were waiting at the launch pads across the LoC to infiltrate into the Kashmir valley, but the security forces were alert and prepared to foil any such attempts.Inspector General (IG), BSF Kashmir Frontier, Ashok Yadav, on Saturday, said increased attempts to infiltrate terrorists into the valley always remain before the onset of winter."There are always attempts to infiltrate before snowfall. There are still about two months, and chances of infiltration are there till November because they know they will have lesser chances for the next six months. So, they always attempt to infiltrate, but because of the alertness of the forces, it is very difficult to infiltrate," Yadav said."There is a presence of terrorists on the launch pads across the LoC opposite our AOR (area of responsibility) in the Bandipora and Kupwara sectors. They are waiting for an opportunity to infiltrate, but the security is very tight. Sometimes they wait for inclement weather to make a move. So, the attempts are always there, but we are prepared and alert for any eventuality," he added."Along with the army, we are dominating the LC very well. The security forces foiled two infiltration attempts so far this year. It is very difficult to infiltrate our AOR because of the alertness with which we perform our duties and the new methodology and new surveillance equipment that we have," the IG BSF added.

Last week, the security forces had arrested a person from South Kashmir for allegedly providing logistical support to terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack. Pakistan-based terrorists had killed 26 people, mostly tourists, at Jammu and Kashmir's Baisaran valley in April this year. An official said that the individual is an Over Ground Worker (OGW) from Kulgam and had a role in providing logistical support to the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack who were later killed during Operation Mahadev. In the July 29 encounter, the Army's elite para commandos had gunned down the three terrorists on the outskirts of Srinagar. They included Sulieman alias Asif, who is believed to be the mastermind of the April 22 Pahalgam attack. (With inputs from PTI)
