Annapoorani Returns To OTT After Netflix Removal: When And Where To Watch Nayanthara's Controversial Film Online
Actor Nayanthara's 2023 film, Annapoorani, in which she played of a chef, is all set to stream on a popular OTT Platform. The film, helmed by Nilesh Krishnaa, was previously removed by Netflix worldwide
after the makers were accused of promoting love jihad and hurting Hindu sentiments.
Annapoorani On OTT: Where To Watch Nayanthara's Controversial Film Online
The film will stream on JioHotstar from October 1 onwards. However, as per reports, the film will not release in Tamil. Annapoorani is set to release on OTT in Hindi.
Annapoorani follows the titular character (Nayanthara), a Hindu girl who hails from Srirangam, and wishes to become a chef, for which she is required to cook non-vegetarian, and eventually goes against her family's religious practices. The relationship which Farhaan (Jai) and Annapoorani share in the film has also been equated to Love Jihad.
What Is Nayanthara's Annapoorani Controversy About?
The theatrical release featured two scenes from the film which received backlash. One scene features a scene in which the protagonist speaks about a God eating meat, and another where the lead star, is seen offering prayers (of another faith) in a competition. The relationship Farhaan (Jai) and Annapoorani share in the film has also been equated to Love Jihad.
Following its OTT debut on Netflix, an FIR was filed against the film by the Hindu Seva Parishad in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, for promoting Love Jihad. Following this, Zee Studios, the co-producers of the film, issued a letter of apology for hurting religious sentiments, addressed to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Later Nayanthara also penned a long note addressing the controversy and apologising for hurting the sentiments of common people.Annapoorani also Achyuth Kumar, KS Ravikumar, Jai, Redin Kingsley, Sathyaraj and Karthik Kumar, among others. It is to be noted that the film marks Nayanthara's milestone 75th film.
