An
unlikely food choice at a massive far-right rally in London has taken the internet by storm. In the middle of the “Unite the Kingdom” protest — a march led by anti-immigration campaigner Tommy Robinson — footage surfaced of demonstrators queuing up for onion bhajis at a stall called Indian Street Food. The clip, first posted on X by @MikeTown44, has already amassed more than 12 million views, sparking both amusement and debate online.
Saturday’s (September 13) rally, which drew an estimated 100,000 people, was one of the UK's largest right-wing gatherings in years. Protesters waved Union Jacks and St George’s flags while chanting “We want our country back” to voice opposition to immigration. But it was the short video of protesters tucking into Indian snacks that drew the sharpest commentary. One user quipped: “Let me have some Indian goodies to eat before protesting against Indians.”Others pushed back against the mockery. “There’s nothing wrong with experiencing other cultures,” one person commented, while another argued the protest was being misrepresented: “By posting this it’s clear to see you don’t understand it’s about illegal immigrants not immigrants….those immigrants obviously are legal as they have a business. Illegal is the key word here.”Another user slammed the tweet, calling it misleading, and wrote: “This is a very misleading tweet and not in any way a true reflection of what’s going on. Nobody is saying no to immigration. Legal immigration is amazing, healthy, and vitally important — the country is beautifully built on different cultures.”The Metropolitan Police said the rally was met by a counter-demonstration organised by ''Stand Up to Racism,'' which drew around 5,000 people. Officers worked to keep the groups apart but reported outbreaks of resistance and violence.
