Twenty people died after a Bengaluru-bound private bus caught fire in Kurnool district after colliding with a two-wheeler on Friday morning. The motorcycle reportedly collided with the Volvo bus and got dragged underneath with its fuel cap open, triggering the blaze.According to Kurnool SP Vikrant Patil, there were about 43 persons in the bus at the time of the incident, reported to have taken place between 2.45 to 3 am."43 were there in the bus including 2 drivers and two children. 19 are safe, two children are safe and two drivers are safe, in total 23 members are safe out of 43 members. Other passengers charred to death," he said.The bus door got jammed due to a short circuit and the vehicle was completely gutted within minutes, police officials
told Times Now. Most survivors were aged between 25 and 35 years, police further said.The bus operated by Kaveri Travels started from Hyderabad around midnight, and reached near Kurnool on National Highway 44 (NH-44), at around 3:00am, when it collided with the two-wheeler. The two-wheeler got stuck under the belly of the bus, causing a spark, the police said.CM Chandrababu Naidu, Revanth Reddy Express ShockAndhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He assured full government support for the victims and their families.“I am shocked to learn about the devastating bus fire accident near Chinna Tekuru village in Kurnool district. Government authorities will extend all possible support to the injured and affected families,” Naidu said in a post on X.The Telangana CMO also expressed deep shock over the horrific bus accident and instructed state officials to coordinate with Andhra Pradesh authorities and take necessary relief measures. He expressed profound condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this incident.
