Back in September 2023, Kim was accused of being a bully and violence perpetrator during her middle school days. According to reports, the 36-year-old was part of an infamous bullying gang at Sangji Girls' Middle School called Big Sangji, who were known for extorting other students, physical assault, and verbal abuse. While the K-drama star acknowledged being part of the school bullying group, she denied ever taking part in any of the violence, saying, "I lived as a bystander."In April 2024, Kim's label Gram Entertainment shared that the actress had made amends with her accusers. "Kim Hieora met with the parties involved in last year's controversy and spent a long time corroborating each other’s memories before coming to an understanding. They have since agreed to root on each other’s lives," the label stated.
Kim Hieora breaks silence
On October 22, Kim attended the press screening and conference of her upcoming movie Savior. This marked her first on-screen project since 2023, when she was accused of school violence. At the event, she directly spoke about the scandal, considering that so far it was her label that communicated, and she herself never directly talked about it.Kim shared of personally meeting the people involved in the case and having cleared all misunderstandings. "I met with the people involved in person at that time and, through deep conversations, we were able to clear up the misunderstandings we each had. Since then, we’ve been supporting each other in our respective lives and still keep in touch," she said.
How the controversy changed Kim
Controversy hit Kim around the time her show The Uncanny Counter 2, was on air, leaving her professional life facing a roadblock for almost two years. The actress reflected on the time she spent away from the limelight because of the case. Kim stated that she did not feel negatively about it. "I thought that was also something I needed to experience, so I spent that time very fully and devoted myself deeply to studying acting. There wasn’t a single day when I didn’t think about acting."Speaking of Savior, that's scheduled to premiere on November 5 in Korea, she said she played her part "with much more earnestness and desperation," as the experience humbled her to not take things for granted.
