Kim Seon-Ho, Suzy's K-Drama Delusion Fined 1 Million For Illegally Dumping Waste In Jeju, Production Issues Apology
The
production team of Disney+’s highly anticipated historical drama Delusion, starring Kim Seon-Ho and Suzy, has come under scrutiny after being fined for illegally dumping waste during filming in Jeju. On September 17, the Aewol-eup Office of Jeju City confirmed that the team will be fined 1 million KRW (approximately Rs 63,755) following a review of a public complaint submitted via the national Civil Complaints Portal.
Team Delusion fined for littering
The issue arose during the shoot on Jeju’s picturesque Oreum hills, where discarded items - including plastic water bottles, cup holders featuring Kim Seon-Ho’s face, various plastics, and butane gas canisters - were found scattered around the site. Images posted on social media quickly went viral, prompting outrage over the team’s negligence in preserving the environment.Authorities determined the case to be in violation of Article 8 of the Waste Management Act, as the waste was deemed to have originated from business activities. “We are currently carrying out procedures to impose fines in accordance with relevant laws,” the office stated. However, no fines were levied for the gas canisters, as Jeju City clarified that there was no evidence of fires being started with the discarded items.ALSO READ: Delusion Makers Apologise After Bae Suzy, Kim Seon-Ho K-Drama's Viral Video From Shoot Location Leaves Internet Angry - WATCHThe city further explained that fines under the Forest Protection Act apply only if flammable materials are carried into restricted areas during designated fire-prevention periods. “The prohibition order applied only during designated fire prevention periods, so it is difficult to impose fines solely for possession of flammable materials,” the office said.In its response, Jeju City talked about stricter regulations for future shoots: “In future filming cooperation within national forests under the jurisdiction of the Korea Forest Service, we will strengthen cooperation conditions and thoroughly check whether the area is restored after filming concludes.”
Production company issues apology
Production company Showbox issued an official apology, stating, “Filming ended late, and due to darkness, we were unable to clean the site thoroughly. We have apologised to local authorities and immediately removed the waste.” The office also confirmed that actors involved would be cautioned, and measures would be taken to prevent similar incidents through stricter waste monitoring and wildfire prevention.
