Actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty’s much-talked about film, Kantara: Chapter 1, finally marked its debut in theatres worldwide on 2nd October. However, within hours, the film leaked online. Following the piracy
threat, makers of the film have issued a statement asking fans to avoid supporting piracy.

The post shared by Hombale Films and Rishab Shetty, said that recording pictures and visuals from the film takes away the magic of cinema. The post read "DEAR KANTARA FAMILY AND CINEMA LOVERS, From the beginning, Kantara has been yours as much as ours. Your love and support have carried this journey forward. We humbly request you not to support piracy. It not only harms the film but also the dreams and efforts of thousands who worked tirelessly to bring it to life. We also kindly ask fans not to record or share videos from theatres even with good intentions, it takes away the magic of cinema. Kantara Chapter 1 was created for the big screen for you to feel every sound, every frame, every emotion as it was meant to be. Let's protect this journey together and keep Kantara an unforgettable experience in theatres."
Previously, several films like Pushpa, Coolie and Animal have also been leaked on piracy websites within hours of release, causing major shock to filmmakers and producers.
Kantara: Chapter 1 written and directed by Rishab Shetty, and produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under Hombale Films is a prequel to the 2022 film Kantara, the story goes deeper into the origins of the mythological tradition and ancestral conflict introduced in the first film. The film also stars Jayaram, Rukmini Vasanth and Gulshan Devaiah. The film was released on 2 October 2025, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra.
