Customs Preventive wing was on Tuesday, September 23 raided the residences of high-net-worth individuals in Kerala, including prominent actors. This is part of a crackdown on alleged illegal import of premium vehicles numbering over 100 from Bhutan.

The Kochi residences of actors Prithviraj Sukumaran and Dulquer Salmaan were raided by the Customs and Central Excise Department as part of Operation Numkhor. The investigation, focuses on allegations of SUVs being smuggled into Kerala from Bhutan.According to officials, pre-owned SUVs from Bhutan were allegedly smuggled into India without paying taxes and sold to businessmen and film industry figures in Kerala. None of the vehicles involved is manufactured in India. It is suspected that the new vehicles have been illegally imported as used vehicles through Bhutan.

The operation is named Numkhor, which in Bhutanese means Vehicle. Customs has been checking the alleged illegal import of second-hand vehicles from Bhutan. Following this, the agency has gone on a raid, which is underway in around 30 locations, including Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kuttippuram, and Thrissur.As per The Hindu "The Indian law prohibits the import of second-hand vehicles.
