last episode of Peacemaker Season 2 was surprisingly subdued and did not contain any big fight or action sequence. The DC Studios show surprised fans by healing several bonds as the 11th Street Kids got back together again, only for one of their own to be taken away and stranded. Here's what went down in the episode titled 'Full Nelson' and what it means for the next big DC film, Man of Tomorrow, which is the follow-up to Superman. Warning: Spoilers Ahead!

Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 8 titled Full Nelson

The episode opens with a flashback, and the series finally shows fans what happened between Chris (John Cena) and Emillia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) that caused him to leave this dimension. The hour-long episode features Chris back in prison calling himself the 'Angel of Death' and believing he is cursed. He rejects all attempts at his friends trying to visit him, and eventually Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) bails him out using the money Adrian (Freddie Stroma) has amassed through his drug busts.

Meanwhile, Rick Flag Sr (Frank Grillo) has been working alongside Lex Luthor's (Nicholas Hoult) team, trying to figure out where every door in the Quantum Unfolding Chamber leads to. The ARGUS team loses several members before finding one place that seems similar to Earth. Sasha Bordeaux (Sol Rodriguez) finds out that Flag plans to use it as a prison of metahumans, which was Luthor's initial proposal. Alarmed, she goes to Emilia to team up. The 11th Street Kids also have an intervention for Chris after he is holed up in a motel with Eagly and plans to leave forever. Adrian tases Chris and the gang, especially Adebayo, reasons with Chris and makes him understand how important he is to them. What is Checkmate?

The 11th Street Kids, along with former ARGUS Agents Bordeaux, Fleury (Tim Meadows), and Judomaster (Nhut Le), form Checkmate, an independent covert operations and watchdog agency. They use Adrian's blood money to set up the office building. DC comic book fans will recognise the name, as Amanda Waller is the one who establishes it. The comics also involve Maxwell Lord but with the new direction the studio is heading, it is unknown whether Waller (Viola Davis) or Lord (Sean Gunn) will be involved.After the finale, James Gunn confirmed that all the Peacemaker characters would be back in the DCU. He shared on the official podcast of the show, "Peacemaker will be back. As for this TV show, we'll see exactly what form. We have plans. You'll see all these characters in the future of the DCU in not too long."

What happens to Chris at the end of Peacemaker?

The season ends with Chris being abducted by ARGUS and sent to the alternate Earth known as Salvation. Flag informs him that he is being used as a guinea pig to find out what happens to metahumans who will be sent here eventually. As the portal shuts for him forever, Flag tells him, "This is for Ricky." The general is still consumed with revenge for Chris killing his son.

Like Checkmate, Salvation is another nod to the comics. It is a planet that Waller and her agency, Checkmate, use to keep dangerous metahumans and villains out of their way. What will happen to Chris as he is alone with no way out? Will the 11th Street Kids figure out his location? The show ends with sounds of dangerous beasts implying imminent danger.

What does this mean for Man of Tomorrow?

On social media, Gunn commented, "Where Chris is at the end, what’s happening between the government and the metahumans, Rick and Lex’s new partnership, and all their decisions… it’s all part of the future, MOT, and more.” How has Gunn laid the clues for the next installment of Superman? Viewers now know that Flag Sr. is actively working with Lex Luthor; the villain sent him a note saying he was looking forward to what's next.

In the DC feature film Superman (David Corenswet) was sent to Lex's prison, but the Man of Steel escaped. Will Lex try to send Superman to Salvation in the next film? Or could Flag betray Lex and end up sending him to Salvation as well? There might be several metahumans teaming up together to find their way out. Gunn has already hinted that Man of Tomorrow, which releases on July 9, 2027, will see Lex and Superman forced to work together to fight a bigger threat. This ending could be part of it.
