Janhvi Kapoor Honours Mother Sridevi At Oscar-Selected Homebound's Premiere, Here's How

Kapoor’s upcoming Hindi film, Homebound, is India’s official entry to the Oscars 2026. It is due for a theatrical release on September 26 after premiering at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 and the Toronto International Film Festival 2025. Ahead of Homebound’s theatrical release, the makers hosted a star-studded premiere in Mumbai on Monday evening. Janhvi attended it with her co-stars Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa.

For the special screening of Homebound, Janhvi wore a blue and black saree with golden embroidery. The actress honoured her mother, the late Sridevi, by wearing the garment from her wardrobe. Sridevi wore the saree for the first time in 2017 and Manish Malhotra designed it for her.

Homebound For Oscars 2026

Janhvi reacted to Homebound’s selection for the Oscars 2026. She wrote on Instagram, “Every part of this film has been nothing short of a dream. The journey, the people, what this story means, and how personal it’s been for everyone in our team. At every step I have been thankful I could witness this journey, which in my mind was truly the reward in itself. Everything since has been a celebration of all these people that I love and respect so much, for their talent, their goodness and their courage. @neeraj.ghaywan @karanjohar @vishaljethwa06 @ishaankhatter. this movie and even its journey, has been about hope, in so many more ways than one would expect. In cinemas on the 26th of September :)”

Chaalbaaz remake with Janhvi Kapoor?

According to reports, Janhvi is in talks for the remake of Chaalbaaz. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “For Janhvi, Chaalbaaz is a lot more than just a film. It’s an emotion. She has jumped at the chance of playing the lead role in Chaalbaaz but is treading this with utmost caution.”The source further added, “She is taking opinions from people around her regarding the Chaalbaaz remake. She is excited but also wary of all the comparisons. She is expected to take a call on the remake by the end of September.”

Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, is backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions.
