BTS RM To Curate, Display Personal Art Collection At San Francisco Museum Exhibition Giving Fans Glimpse Of His 'Aesthetic Eye'
BTS member RM's artistic side comes out not only when he's rapping or making music with his bandmates Jin, Suga, J-Hope, V, Jimin and Jungkook, but also in his social media captions, expressions and whenever
he's interacting with fans. Now the leader is set to put his creativity to a unique use. Kim Namjoon will curate a special exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art under the name of 'RM x SFMOMA' scheduled from October of 2026 through February of 2027.
Chance to explore RM's personal art collection
On October 2, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art confirmed the same through an announcement which said, "For the first time, explore RM's personal art collection. See what inspires one of the world’s most influential musicians. 'RM x SFMOMA' opens next year, October 2026."The exhibition will be made up of approximately 200 pieces personally selected by RM. These will include works from both the South Korean artist and museum’s collections, along with some of his privately-owned works and those belonging to SFMOMA. It will be co-curated by RM and SFMOMA's curatorial project manager América Castillo and assistant curator Hyoeun Kim.
RM's expectations from the exhibition
BTS' agency BigHit Music confirmed the project too, stating that this would give fans a chance to get a "glimpse into RM's artistic sensibilities and get to know his aesthetic eye as a collector."RM said in a statement, "We live in an age defined by boundaries. This exhibition at SFMOMA reflects those boundaries: between East and West, Korea and America, the modern and the contemporary, the personal and the universal.""I don’t want to prescribe how these works should be seen; whether out of curiosity or study, all perspectives are welcome. My only hope is that this exhibition can be a small but sturdy bridge for many," he added.
Museum's statement
Janet Bishop, SFMOMA’s chief curator, stated, "Visitors will have an unprecedented opportunity to explore RM’s beautiful and contemplative collection of paintings and sculpture in dialogue with works from SFMOMA’s holdings, inviting us to make new discoveries and reflect on our own relationships with art."As per reports, RM is the owner of artworks by globally renowned artists such as KAWS and Murakami Takashi, and contemporary Korean artists including Lee Dae Won and Kim Jong Hak.
